Deborah GradyA major clinical trial by Deborah Grady, MD, and colleagues was the first to alert the clinical research community to the possibility that hormone therapy might not have the cardiovascular benefits for which it was promoted. In the Heart and Estrogen/progestin Replacement Study of 2,800 women with heart disease, there was no protection from heart attack or stroke. Follow-up investigations have since made it clear that hormone therapy offers no long-term health benefit not outweighed by health risks.
