Richard CoughlinSan Francisco General Hospital orthopaedic surgeon Richard Coughlin, MD, winner of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Humanitarian Award, has made a career of bringing medical services to the underserved around the world and preaching the virtues of volunteerism. A decade ago, Coughlin started an elective overseas clinical rotation for UCSF orthopedic surgery residents in South Africa. He also provides training to local physicians in developing countries through his involvement with Orthopaedics Overseas.
